The 6 Agent Archetypes

Which Realtor Archetype Are You?

As an agent community, we often hear advice like, "You have to prospect, or you won’t make it," "You need to network, or you won’t succeed," or "You must know every detail about everything, from market trends to staging." But in reality, we come across agents every day who achieve success in their own unique ways. This made me realize that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to being a successful agent.

Each of us has our own strengths, preferences, and styles that define how we do business. That's why I’ve identified 6 common agent archetypes. Knowing your archetype allows you to build your business by working with your natural tendencies, not against them.

The 6 Realtor Archetypes

Social Butterfly
This agent knows everyone in their area. They thrive in clubs, events, social gatherings, and just love being around people. Most of their business comes from referrals—because when you're connected, people naturally want to work with you and recommend you.

Lead Master
This person is bold and doesn’t mind cold calling, prospecting to their list, and converting internet leads. They get much of their business from non-sphere sources, thriving on their ability to hustle and turn prospects into clients.

The Influencer
This person is great at creating content. They have mastered one or multiple platforms, excelling at writing, being on camera, editing videos, and more. Most of their business comes from a social media channel where they engage and educate their audience.

The Brander
This person would put their branding on their windshield if it was legal. They consistently brand themselves as the go-to agent in an area, price point, or niche. They get most of their business from people recognizing their brand rather than knowing them personally.

The Nerdy Agent
This person loves data and can communicate it well. They win people over with their deep understanding of all things real estate. They are the agent that other agents in the office call for specific questions. Whether it's explaining the psychology of staging a house or the economic factors affecting mortgage rates, this person wins business from raving referrals and being the most knowledgeable agent around.

The Visionary
This agent has an eye for design and an innate ability to see the potential in any space. They excel at staging homes, advising clients on renovations, and making strategic changes that enhance a property’s appeal and value. Most of their business comes from clients who trust their design expertise to make their property stand out in a competitive market.

The Results: How Agents See Themselves

We surveyed agents to find out which archetype they identified with most. Here’s how the votes broke down:

  • Social Butterfly: 25% of agents

  • Lead Master: 12.5% of agents

  • The Influencer: 14.6% of agents

  • The Brander: 6.3% of agents

  • The Nerdy Agent: 33.3% of agents

  • The Visionary: 8.3% of agents

Sub-Archetypes

Most agents don't fit neatly into just one category—they often have a primary archetype with one or more sub-archetypes that complement their main style:

  • Social Butterflies often gravitate towards being Influencers and Branders because their extroverted nature makes them comfortable putting themselves out there on social media and building a strong personal brand.

  • Lead Masters might also lean towards being Branders and Nerdy Agents. They may avoid deep personal relationships, but they thrive in transaction-driven situations, where branding and data play significant roles.

  • Influencers frequently also take on the Social Butterfly or Brander roles, using their visibility and content creation skills to establish a strong personal brand.

  • Branders often align with the Influencer and Visionary archetypes, combining their branding skills with content creation and a keen eye for design.

  • Nerdy Agents might naturally take on Visionary and Lead Master sub-archetypes, using their deep knowledge to inform design choices and systematic lead generation.

  • Visionaries often pair their design expertise with the data-driven focus of Nerdy Agents and the branding acumen of Branders to create standout properties and a strong market presence.

By understanding your core archetype and your sub-archetypes you can focus on what you do best and tailor your approach to make the most of your natural strengths. So, which archetype are you? And how can you use that knowledge to take your business to the next level?

P.S. Most trainings, coaching, and programs have the same methodology for all agents. To us, this didn’t make sense. Agents should do what comes easiest to them and aligns with their archetype to grow their business.
